Anxiety is a bitch but she doesn’t have to control you.
I had no idea I suffered from anxiety until last year. It’s mainly because I had no idea how to identify it, plus it wasn’t ruining my day-to-day until it did…
Anxiety: a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.
For a long time I suffered in silence with overthinking, worrying, procrastinating, having anxiety attacks while sleeping and from crowded spaces. Anxiety can sometimes be unexplainable. You don’t even know what you’re going through, but you do know something ain’t right.
Anxiety can come in many different forms. It can come forth in your sleep, uncontrollable crying, unable to focus, unable to move, having a hard time speaking (stuttering), your work environment, trauma, crowded areas, small spaces, and even in relationships.
“Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health struggles in the U.S. It affects over 40 million adults every single year. Kids experience them too: over 25% of people between 13 and 18 live with anxiety today.” – Crisis Text Line
Anxiety can be ongoing if you don’t put forth the effort to change it. It’s NOT a quick fix and you should NOT feel ashamed about it either. It’s a mental struggle that can be suppressed if you change your mindset and take care of your mental health… Self-care can be the trick.
If you suffer from anxiety you know at the exact moment when you’re about to have an anxiety attack, you can feel that shit rising within you from your stomach traveling up to your throat. You might start to get sweaty or clench your jaw like me. Instead of staying in that feeling and allowing it to take over you. Try taking yourself out of that emotion. Remember, it’s all really in your head, so change the thoughts that are in your mind.
Ways to help with that bitch anxiety:
Eating oranges in the morning: Vitamin C helps calm your moods and aids in your focus. An orange a day keeps the stress away.
Meditation: Meditation brings the focus to yourself and gives you a quiet mind for clarity. The dope thing about meditation is, it comes in many forms. You can meditate while working out, taking a walk, reading a book, painting, being creative, writing, playing a sport, or talking to yourself in the mirror. Meditation is what you make of it. It’s not always sitting down with your thoughts.
Working out: It releases endorphins which relieve your body from stress. A good 30 minutes of consistent movement will change your mood and suppress any anxious thoughts you may have had.
Morning workouts are the best for those who suffer from morning anxiety. Wake up a little earlier, sis, and go for a run.
Calm powder at night: Have you ever been woken up by an anxiety attack or couldn’t shut your brain off? Calm powder can cure that. Calm gives you a healthy dose of magnesium and it is an anti-stress relief drink.
Drink 1 cup before bed and you’ll wake up a brand new person.
Reading: It’s therapeutic and helps to take your mind off whatever is making you anxious. Read something educational or something you really enjoy. Get lost in a book instead of your negative thoughts.
Challenge yourself to read 10-15 minutes a day and watch how your anxiety reduces day by day.
I’m a slut for a good book.
CBD gummies: For 4 months straight I took CBD gummies to help me go to sleep.
“At the time I suffered from horrible sleep anxiety. My mind wouldn’t shut off and all I had were nightmares about what was on my mind. At one point I was even afraid to go to sleep.”
No, CBD doesn’t have THC in it so you won’t get high, but your body will relax, and depending on the dosage you’ll get drowsy enough to go to sleep. CBD is more of a body stimulator that works for sleep, pains, anxiety, and inflammation.
Talk to yourself: Look in the mirror and say whatever it is that you need to get out. Growing up “talking” to yourself was looked down on, like why the fuck would you talk to yourself? My question is why not? There is no one to judge you and you can let out all of your secrets. If you’re feeling anxious tell yourself that and remind yourself to calm down. Be your own hype man. Ask the questions that are bothering you and figure out a solution that is good for you.
“I can’t tell you how many times I had to tell myself, GIRLLLLLL get your shit together. You got this, you’ve been doing this. Or come to some realization about something that’s been bothering me.”
Take a moment to relax your mind.
Change your thoughts. If you’re like me your thoughts can go down a rabbit hole if you allow them to. If what’s making you anxious is just the thoughts in your mind. RELEASE YOUR FUCKING THOUGHTS.
The easiest way to do this is to ask yourself, what do I have to do next? Literally.
Do you need to find something to eat? Get dressed? Shower? Wash the dishes? Put the clothes away? Answer that text message? Whatever it is, go do it. Stop your thoughts right then and there.
Work on releasing whatever is making you anxious. If you’re still thinking about it, it’s important and you need to figure out what your anxiety/intuition is telling you. Anxiety and intuition work hand and hand. If you’re really not listening, your intuition will warn you in the form of anxiety. Sometimes, what you’re anxious about is your intuition’s way of telling you something isn’t right.
Stop letting that bitch anxiety ruin your life. It’s not her life to live.
